Foot Washing: Why I suppourt it

Driving home from Church today with a friend who knows my Anabaptist leanings he jokingly asked about foot washing and whether I supported it I said I would but this has led me to think upon why I support foot washing. First of all it is Biblical I wouldn't support it if it was not biblical. Christ washed His disciple's feet as shown in John 13:14-17 if Jesus Christ saw fit to wash the disciples feet why should we turn from it as an antiquarian or strange idea? For we are God's little flock Elected by Him for His Glory alone in this dispensation. The practical aspects of foot washing as I see it knits the heart of the brothers and sisters togther much as prayer draws one closer to The Lord and it also breeds an mindset of love and mutial forgivness. It is hard to hate an man who's feet you are washing or who you are praying for daily. the simplicty of foot washing is foolishness to the world but to the believer it is an buietiful portarat of our Saviour's love our need and desire to be more like him each day as Christ said He who would be greatest in the Kingdom let Him be a servent.
